THERE WAS sadness and excitement in the air when the members of Tullow Active Retirement celebrated their annual Christmas lunch.
They were the last large sitting to be booked into the Killerig Hotel before its closure, but thanked the staff and chef for an unforgettable afternoon.
'They excelled themselves,' said group PRO Martha Tynan. 'As always they looked after us brilliantly and we can't praise them enough, we just wish them all well.'
Tullow Active Retirement, which started out with 18 members 10 years ago, today has a group of 260 that take part in a wide range of activities like water aerobics, tai chi, line dancing, day trips, yoga and bowls.
'There is something for everyone and we run courses too that are never too expensive. Active retirement is one of the best ways to avoid isolation. It is somewhere to go and forget about that world out there that is a bit crazy at the moment,' she added.
The group enjoyed a mulled wine reception provided free by the hotel, followed a full Christmas dinner and music by Pat Bermingham.
Lucky members went home with top prizes from the raffle including trips to Sligo, Tipperary, Connemara and Galway city.
'A big thank you also to John Timmons from Tullow Cabs who brought people there and back home safely.'
