Dawn chorus in Altamont

It may well turn out to be the most significant event of the year in Ballon and Rathoe! On Sunday morning next 25th May at 4.30am Eanna Ní Lamhna from RTE's 'Mooney Show' and' Mooney Goes Wild' will be the facilitator as early risers descend on The Walled Garden at Altamont to hear the Dawn Chorus.

The group will assemble in the car park at 4.00am and will be guided down to the Walled Garden for the event. The area is fully wheelchair accessible. Due to popular demand there are a limited number of tickets available, so please ring Maire on 087-2424934 or Rosemarie on 086 0706262 to book.

AN POST RAS

This year's An Post Rás which started in Dunboyne, County Meath on Sunday last will pass through the eastern side of the parish on Saturday 24th May. The best vantage points are Kilbride Cross at approximately 1.20pm, Closh Cross at 1.23 and The Bang Ups at 1.25pm. For those who wish to get a prolonged view Corabutt Gap in the Blackstairs Mountains at 12.30pm is the ideal place to be. Local man Edward Dawson is the assistant Race Director.

ALZHEIMER'S TEA DAY

The annual Alzheimer's Tea Day will be held in Rathoe Hall on tomorrow (Wednesday) from 2.30 to 5.00pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

CEMETERY MASSES

The three cemetery masses have been arranged as follows- Ballon on Sunday 1st June at 7.30pm; Templepeter on Sunday 29th June at 3pm and Rathoe on Sunday 6th July at 7.30pm.

RACE NIGHT

CONFIRMATION DAY

The 5th and 6th class pupils from Clonegal and Kildavin N.S will be making their Confirmation on Thursday, 5th June. Pupils will be confirmed in their own churches. Clonegal N.S will take place in St. Bridges Church at 11 am, Kildavin N.S will take place in St. Lazerian's Church at 2pm.

JUVENILE GAA

The club invites all boys and girls of the area from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th classes to participate in the inaugural Annual GAA Schools Football Festival, which will take place in the Spellman Park, on bank holiday Monday, 2nd June at 2.30pm.

Congratulations to the children of St. Mary's School Ballyconnell on their First Holy Communion Day in Ballyconnell Church on Saturday 10th May. Fr. Gahan and Fr. Keating thanked all the teachers, parents and the children and anyone who helped in anyway to make the day such memorable occasion.

CLUB LOTTO

Bellview Soccer Club is holding a 20 year reunion on Sunday 1st June in Byrne's Lounge, Clonmore from 6p.m. until late. THE LATE MICHAEL BARRY

His many friends in Doonane and surrounding areas were saddened to learn of the death of Michael Barry, Doonane Hill which took place at St Lukes Hospital, Kilkenny on Thursday 8th May. Michael had been ill for a short time. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him and his passing is much regretted.

His remains were removed to St Abbans Church, Doonane on 9th May. Burial took place in adjoining cemetery after 11 am Requiem Mass which was celebrated by Fr Denis Murphy, assisted by Fr Jimmy O'Reilly and Deacon Joe O'Rourke.

Sympathy is extended to his wife, Catherine, daughters, Annette and Louise, sons, Kevin, Paul, Conor and Eoin, grandchildren, Ronan, Cian, Stephen, Aidan and Michaela, son in law, Alan, daughters in law, Geraldine and Katherian, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a large circle of friends.

The Ninth Solemn Novena has begun on Monday nights and will run for nine consecutive nights. The Theme for this year's Novena is "Our Faith - Our Story" and each night of the Novena a guest speakers will speak on this theme. The fourth Novena night is on Monday 26 May, Magnus MacFarlane, Founder of Mary's Meals, will speak.

FAMILY FUN DAY

There will be a Family Fun Day in the GAA grounds in Rathvilly on Saturday 24th May at 11am, in aid of a local woman who is battling Ovarian cancer along with some serious hospital bills. There will be Irish dancers, a live samba band, a DJ, roast pig on a spit, ice cream, pie eating contests, games, tug of war, obstacle course, catch the greased pig race, loads of prizes and an auction for some very big prizes. It should be a fabulous day to bring the community together and ALL proceeds will go to a fantastic cause.
