CHRISTMAS FAIR

A Christmas Crafts Fair will be held in Ballon Old National School on Thursday and Friday, 13/14th December from 11am to 5pm each day. For more information or to book a stand contact Eileen on 059 9159447 or 087 2273516.

GOOSE CLUB

The annual parish goose club will be held in Ballon Community Centre on Sunday, 2nd December from 7 to 9.30pm. Parishioners are asked to be as generous as usual if possible, with donations of Christmas cakes, turkeys, hams, chocolates, biscuits, sweets ,fuel vouchers, spirits and wines, farm produce etc and of course to complete the perfect line-up, the goose itself.

Donations of all of the above will be gratefully accepted in Rathoe Hall after Mass on the morning of the 2nd and in Ballon Community Centre between 1 and 4pm the same afternoon. And for a great night's entertainment in itself, don't forget to attend and bring the family along. .

THE GATHERING 2013

A public meeting will be held in Kavanagh's lounge on Wednesday next, 28th November at 9pm to discuss how Ballon Village can play its part in the gathering 2013. This is a great opportunity to showcase our village to all especially our expats. All ideas for events are most welcome and representation from each club in the area is encouraged

BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

Fancy having breakfast with Santa? Well you can at Siopa Glas on 15th, 16th, 21st ,22nd and 23rd December. Sessions at 10.30am, 11.45am and 2pm and the cost is just €5 and admission is by ticket only. After breakfast there will be a workshop with elves in arts and crafts. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Phone Breda on 087 7820211 or Margaret on 087 1507592 to book. The breakfasts are generously sponsored by Michael McAssey, Butchers and Foodmarket.

BULL TREE BOWLS

Just a year after being formed, Ballon's Bull Tree Bowlers are competing in open competitions with success. It was success at the first attempt at the Mount Wolseley Open Active Retirement Tournament which was held over three days in November with the team of Marian Doyle, Mary Carlin, Victor Carling, Freda Kirk winning the tournament.

Then a week later at the Waterford Active Retirement Festival, held in Butler's Hall, Waterford the same came finished runners-up in the premier competition while the team of Michael McCarthy, Pat Watchorn, Bernie Kearney, John Dowling, Pat Abbey also got the runners-up prizes in the 'B' competition.

COMMUNITY GAMES AGM

The annual meeting of Ballon Community Games and Athletic club was held in Rathoe Hall on Friday, 9th November where the special guests included Rev. Brendan Howard PP, Eileen Lyons, Carlow Community Games secretary and Liam Lyons, County Games administrator.

Officers elected for the coming year were - joint presidents, Rev. Brendan Howard, PP and Rev. Edward Whelan PE; chairperson, Dick Fitzgerald; vice-chairperson, John Mullins; Community Games secretary, Willie Byrne; assistant Community Games Secretary and AAI secretary, Ray Curran; recording secretary, Christine O'Toole; treasurer, Maura Jordan; assistant treasurer, Jane Flood; PRO, Patrick Jordan and registrar, Catherine Tracey. Community Games delegates - John Blanche, John Mullins, Laura Connolly and Willie Byrne. AAI delegates, Ray Curran, Dick Fitzgerald and Jane Flood. Committee - Laura Connolly, Orla McPartland, John Blanche and Ger Proctor.

BEST PRO

Congratulations to John Mullins, Ballon Hill who won the best club PRO award at the recent annual meeting of the County Carlow Community Games Executive. It was John's third time to be chosen for the award and he now emulates his predecessor, Heather Zerafa, who also had a hat-trick of wins.

BURRIN RANGERS

Burrin Rangers Juvenile Club's Annual Presentation Night will be held on Friday next 30th November in Ballon Community Centre commencing at 7pm sharp.

The guest speaker will be Anthony Rainbow, Carlow Senior Football Manager. There will also be others guests including members of the Carlow Senior Football, Hurling, Camogie and Ladies Football teams; Fighting Cocks - Carlow Intermediate Champions 2012 and Myshall - Leinster Camogie Champions 2012. All juvenile players registered with the club from U6 to U21 level are invited to attend.

ICA GUILD

Ballon ICA Guild meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm in the meeting room in the Old National School. They would love to see new people come in to join them and enjoy a chat. They are currently involved with the Christmas shoe box appeal and are supporting the Tea and Coffee morning in aid of the Cares Association which will be held in Siopa Glas shortly.

They are also collecting for St. Vincent de Paul at the church gate collections at all masses in the parish on 9th December. Their Christmas night out will be a tip to the George Bernard Shaw Theatre in Carlow to the show 'Abba Forever' on 29th November.

MARTIN SWAYNE TROPHY

Tullow Boys National School are the new holders of the Martin Swayne Memorial Trophy. On Thursday 8th November they defeated Ballon National School by 5-1 to 1-1 to win the trophy and medals. After the event Mrs Anne Swayne presented the trophy to Eoghan Cleary, captain of the victorious side.
