Carlow Rose Miriam Smyth won't be the only representative from Carlow heading for Tralee this week.
Tullow man Richard Cooper was successful in his application as an escort and he is now looking forward to looking after one of the young ladies during what will be an action packed week.
Richard, who at 21 is the youngest escort in the Rose of Tralee, randomly decided to apply one evening and hasn't looked back since.
'To be honest, I was just sitting eating my dinner and the ad came on telly,' he said. 'I said "Why not?" and applied.
'Then I was called for an interview and I got it.'
Since being accepted, Richard has travelled to Tralee with his fellow escorts and taken part in a Boot Camp which saw them meet with a number of local businesses and take part in a variety of fitness activities over a weekend.
While he is looking forward to the event, Richard says it can be quite stressful.
'The wardrobe aspect alone is mad. I can't imagine what it must be like for the girls!'
The local community have all gotten together to support Richard in his endeavor, in particular his former employers at Stanley Stoves.
'I worked with Stanley Stoves for a good few years,' he said. 'Robert and all the lads over there have been very good to me as my main sponsors.'
Richard still doesn't know which rose he'll be looking after for during the festival, but plenty of people in his native Tullow will have their eyes peeled to see him on their TV sets over the weekend.
