Paula tunes in to 'Go Music'
After a competitive application process, Kildare native Paula Phelan has been appointed to the position of Co-ordinator of Music Generation Carlow.
Paula will now co-ordinate the 'Go Music!' programme which was developed by the Local Authorities Arts Service, VEC and local music providers. Music Generation Carlow was recently one of three new areas of Ireland selected for participation in 'Music Generation', Ireland's national music education programme.
Speaking of her appointment, Paula said: 'I am delighted with my new role and am looking forward to working with the Music Generation Carlow team to provide access to many different types of music education for thousands of children and young people across Carlow who might otherwise not have the chance of participation.
'I am also looking forward to working with local musicians and music teachers to develop an exciting music education programme over the coming years. Co Carlow already has a progressive arts infrastructure, particularly with VISUAL/GBShaw Theatre, and with nationally recognised festivals such as Eigse Carlow Arts Festival and Barrow River Arts Festival.
'The 'Go Music!' programme should add enormously to the arts here in Carlow.
Music Generation Carlow will now begin to roll out its 'Go Music!' programme in partnership with schools and community organisations. Co-ordinated by Paula, the programme will provide music education, teacher curriculum development, fundraising and performance opportunities.
Carlow MEP aims to set up five geographic regional hubs, serving the community of Borris, Carlow, Hacketstown, Muine Bheag (Bagenalstown) and Tullow, and through Go Music! will meet identified local needs.
