Movie and musical favourites
TRAINEES from the Delta Centre in Carlow are about to take to the stage to perform some musical hits and movie favourites.
For the past 12 weeks everyone has been busy rehearsing for the Delta Centre Show Stoppers which will see more than 100 people with various disabilities, staff and volunteers take centre stage in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre.
This Wednesday, March 27, the curtain will go up as they perform a number of excerpts from favourites like Sister Act, Mary Poppins, the Lion King and other popular West End shows.
All of the colourful costumes and props have also been put together and built by everyone involved and the night will include also a catwalk fashion show from local Carlow boutiques.
'Everyone has been working so hard since Christmas,' said director of services at the centre Eileen Brophy. 'They have been preparing nonstop for twelve weeks so everyone is looking forward to getting on stage.'
This is the second year that the Delta Centre held the event in the theatre but for many years now, Delta Centre, has been showcasing the talents and abilities of their learners through a combination of song, dance and fashion.
'Our performers were recently the special guests at the Kennedy Summer School in New Ross to mark the 50th Anniversary of John F Kennedys historic visit to Ireland,' added Eileen.
'We used to run a smaller event, a fashion show,' she added. 'Now everyone loves performing and they want to sing and dance and go on stage so it has become something much bigger.'
The show starts at 8 p. m and tickets, costing €12 and €10, are available from the George Bernard Shaw Theatre or from the Delta Centre, Strawhall at (059) 9143527.
