With many people deciding upon New Year's Resolutions at this time of year, Carlow people are being urged to give sean-nós dancing a try in 2014.

New classes are being offered by Glór Cheatharlach at beginner and intermediate levels under the expert tutelage of Irene Cunningham.

A native of Galway, Irene is a full-time dancer, performer, tutor and choreographer. She has performed all over the world and has gone down to massive critical acclaim making her dance classes and workshops widely sought after.

Irene has already conducted a number of courses in Carlow and she is hoping that even more people will take it up in 2014.

For anyone not already familiar with sean-nós dancing, it's an ad-hoc free style of solo traditional Irish dancing. It survived the strict regulation of Irish dancing in the 1930s and is rapidly catching on once again.

Glór Cheatharlach is delighted to confirm that a series of new classes will be on offer in the Carlow Town Hurling Club on Tuesdays, getting under way on January 14. Beginner classes will take place at 6 p.m. followed by intermediate at 7 p.m. A six week course will cost €30 for adults and €15 for children. For further details or to reserve your place, call 087 2857048 or 085 1340047 before the first lesson.
