Fiona's story to be read on radio

A Carlow author has had her short story selected from 634 entries to make the shortlist of the RTE radio Francis MacManus Short Story Competition 2013.

Balance by Fiona Cunnane, Leighlinbridge and read by Caitríona Ní Mhurchú has been chosen as one of 25 stories to make the cut. Fiona is the manager of the Carlow Volunteer Centre.

Since its establishment in 1986 the competition has been the launching pad for several new and emerging writers.

Previous winners include Claire Keegan, Ciarán Folan, Ivy Bannister, Nuala Ní Chonchúir and Martin Malone.

This year's 25 shortlisted stories will be read on RTÉ Radio 1 over five weeks starting on Monday, June 24, nightly at 11.10 p. m.

The overall winner of the Francis MacManus Short Story Competition 2013 will be announced on Tuesday 18 June.
