The Irish Heart Foundation has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers in Carlow to help raise €500,000 to support people affected by heart disease and stroke.

Fair City actor Bryan Murray who is passionate about prevention and the work carried out by the Foundation, explained why he was keen to give something back.

He said: 'It's quite simple. I want to live a long and healthy life and I want the same for the people I care about. And this is what the Irish Heart Foundation is all about - helping everyone to live longer. We all know somebody affected by heart disease and stroke and it can happen at any age. That's why the Irish Heart Foundation's work is so important.'

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up now to help out with Happy Hearts Appeal collections in their area from May 9 to May 11. Other ways to get involved include organising a fundraising event or donating online at www.irishheart.ie/happyhearts.

For more information call the Irish Heart Foundation on 01 6685001 or email happyheart@irishheart.ie.
