A Bagenalstown teenager is through to the battles of the RTE singing show The Voice after being picked during the audition rounds by Jamelia.
19-year-old Erica O'Hara featured on the show this weekend singing the Bon Iver hit Skinny Love. She smiled with relief when judge Jamelia spun around mid chorus.
Erica, who is a media and music student at NUIM and works part time in Super Valu, said the whole experience was 'completely surreal'. She was joined at the auditions by her parents Laura and James O'Hara and a few friends.
'It was so scary, I've never done anything on that scale before,' she said afterwards. 'I did a lot of work for it but I wasn't expecting to get through.
Before the show Erica had hoped that either Jamelia or Bressie would end up as her coach.
'When Jamelia turned around it was crazy, it was completely surreal, I just couldn't believe that this was happening to me.'
Erica, who is a past pupil of Presentation de Salle, sang for two years with local band Halflight. She is hoping to have a career in the music industry or in television production.
'The show was beneficial on that end too,' she added.
It was her father James who convinced her to audition. 'Dad told me to go for it, I wouldn't have otherwise,' she added.
The next stage of the show will see Erica battle it out for a place when she is paired against another member of Jamelia's team.
'Jamelia is lovely, she is a sweetheart, she was just giggling all the time.'
