Carlow singer/songwriter Derek Ryan has released the first song from his new album that will be released in the autumn.

On the single the Garyhill man says that he will be 'swapping his tin whistle for a didgeridoo' and welcoming home those who have moved away, back for The Gathering.

Derek is now popular throughout Ireland and the UK for his brand of Irish country and has had a number one single in Japan in 2005 with Irish boy band D-Side when he was 17.

He now has three critically acclaimed albums on release, a five piece band, thousands of fans and is one of the most popular artists on the newly revived Irish country circuit.

'I have been lucky in that I get to meet so many wonderful people when I'm on tour and not matter where I go I hear about so many young people moving away to find work, with most people going to Australia,' he said.

'No matter how far you go, it's always great to come home, which inspired my new single 'Welcome Home', after all there's no place like home.'

'Welcome Home' is now on release from Sharpe Music, or available to download via iTunes.
