COUNTRY music fans will flock to the Lord Bagenal Hotel this Wednesday, November 7, for the launch of the new album by local singing star Derek Ryan.
'Dreamers and Believers' is Derek's third album and it sees the Garryhill native retain his position as one of the most popular new Irish country artists that are reviving the jive.
He has chosen his home county to launch the CD, a third of which is self-penned.
' This is the album I have always wanted to record,' said Derek.
'It is an uplifting collection of some of my favourite songs which I believe reflects the mood of my fans that come to my dances and concerts. They always come in with a smile and at the end of the night I hope they leave feeling better despite the negativity that exists.'
At 17, Derek was catapulted into the international pop music arena leading D-Side with achievements including several Meteor Award nominations, a multi-platinum selling single 'Real World' in Ireland, adding to his three top-ten hits in the UK. He also enjoyed live appearances including Top of the Pops, along with a sell-out theatre tour and a number-one single in Japan in 2005.
Derek's love and passion for country are best measured in his songwriting ability, with five tracks on the new album his own compositions.
The former accounting student has been on the country road for 18 months and now, with three albums under his belt, scores of awards and numerous live performances, his confidence as a performer is at an alltime high.
Joining Derek at the launch, which will benefit the Newtown National School, will be special guest Gerry Carney, known for his hit song 'Paddy'.
Doors open at 9 p.m. and Derek will be signing copies of the CD after the show.
