Carlow was still celebrating this week following the announcement that Clonattin, Leighlinbridge and Carlow had once again been awarded gold medals and had improved on last year's scores in the 2013 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition.
As well as the celebrating the success in the three areas however, there were special celebrations in Leighlinbridge where John and Mary Meaney, a married couple from the village, were each awarded a SuperValu Tidy Towns Hero award.
John and Mary were two of eight 'heroes' selected nationally in recognition of the continuous dedication and commitment they have shown in their work for the local community. John and Mary were delighted to accept their awards at a special ceremony in The Helix in Dublin, where the results for the whole country were announced last week.
Speaking at the ceremony, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu said, 'I remain deeply heartened by the enormous contribution the Tidy Towns volunteers and committees across the country make each year.
'Their dedication and hard work to improve the communities in which they work and live is the very essence of what we in SuperValu believe in.'
