From then Wicklow were forced to chase the game, but try as they might Dundalk were in no mood to let Wicklow back into it. They added on two late tries as Wicklows heads dropped and ran out 40-12 winners. Wicklow were gutted with the result and disappointed with the second half performance.
Had they maintained the first half display they were more than capable of causing a huge upset. Unfortunately it was not to be and Wicklow will ply their trade in Division 1B of Leinster again next season. They will look to strengthen the squad over the summer with a number of fine players coming through from the under-19's as well as some former players returning to the fold. Hopefully they will be in a strong position to challenge for the league title next year which will be the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the club.
The firsts are still in the Towns Plate where they play Naas in the quarterfinals.
Wicklows under-14's had a fine win against Longford RFC in the quarterfinals of the Leinster cup. Coached by former Wicklow captains Allen Byrne and Brian Clarke this tough young side have the potential to go all the way in this. This win sees them move into the semis where their opposition is yet to be confirmed.
Wicklow RFC will be running their summer tag tournament which will start in May. Details will be posted on www.wicklowrfc.com or email firstname.lastname@example.org
