EIRE OG GREYSTONES gave it a good lash before succumbing to a two goals defeat to Meath's Rathmoylon in the Leinster Club junior hurling championship game at Trim on Sunday.
The Greystones men were without three players in addition to the suspended Gino Fusciardi, including Leon Brown, Matty Barden and their star goalie Dan O'Neill and that was a big handicap.
Playing with the wind in the first half Rathmoylon sneaked in for two early and easy goals and Eire Og found they were unable subsequently claw their way back from those setbacks no matter how hard they tried.
Eire Og trailed by 0-4 to 2-6 at the break, outscored their opponents by seven points to five in the second half, but were never able to close the gap on their opponents.
Scorers for Eire Og Greystones were: Shane Nolan (0-5), Ger Whyte (0-2), Phelim Byrne (0-1), Anto Byrne (0-1), Peter Keane (0-1), Billy Cuddihy (0-1).
Eire Og: Barney Carroll, Aidan Ivers, Andy Walsh, Dan O'Connor, Kristian Flynn, Billy Cuddihy, James Kelly, Stephen Kelly, Jack Tanner, Mick Walsh, Ger Whyte, Anto Byrne, Shane Nolan, Phelim Byrne, Pete Keane. Sub used: James Cranley for Ivers after 40 minutes. Pete Keane switched to corner back. On the bench: Craig Smullen, Tom Enright, John Deeney, Kevin Byrne, Shane Mulford, Paul Gaskin, Ciaran Goff.
