BRADY'S of Shankill has won the 'Local of the Year' award at the 2012 National Bar Awards.
This was good news for owner John Brady, coming just two months after Brady's sister pub The Vevay Inn in Bray was extensively damaged by an overnight fire.
The Bray pub remains closed, but Mr. Brady said that plans are afoot to rebuild it as soon as possible.
The family owned pub and restaurant which is on Shankill's Main Street beat off competitors from all over Ireland to scoop the coveted award at last week's annual awards ceremony in the D4 Berkeley Hotel.
Organised by Licensing World magazine and judged by an independent panel of drinks industry experts, the National Bar Awards are known as the 'Oscars' of the Irish pub trade.
Honours are bestowed in a number of categories including City Bar of the Year, Hotel Bar of the Year and Bar Manager of the Year. However, the most prestigious and keenly sought-after award is for Local of the Year, which Brady's duly won after making it on to the final shortlist of nine pubs from around the country.
' Without the unwavering support of our local patrons in Shankill and the fantastic work done by all our staff on a daily basis, we could never have hoped to win such an important prize,' said owner Mr. Brady.
