ALL ROADS led to Tullamore RFC last Monday as Scoil Chonglais sought to create history in the Leinster Junior Development Cup final against Moyne CS from Longford.
The team has been in fine form going into the game and had beaten St David's Greystones, Wexford CBS, Colaiste Bhride Carnew and St Colmcilles Knocklyon on the way to the final.
The game got off to high tempo start with two evenly matched teams trying very hard to make the breakthrough. This came in the 15th minute when a controversial scrum in the Scoil Chonglais 22 resulted in good interplay and a try for Moyne outside centre Cormac McCabe.
The try was converted by Mark Hughes who added a penalty after 20 minutes. The Scoil Chonglais team kept to the task and produced some excellent forward play.
The breakthrough came from the Baltinglass inside centre Adam Doyle who scored an outstanding individual try but his conversion came back off the post and left the score at 10-5 to Moyne at half time. Baltinglass continued to work very hard in the second and played very exciting attacking rugby led especially by outhalf Robin Farrell centre Adam Doyle and fullback Daniel Kelly.
It was Moyne however on a rare visit to the opposition 22 who got the only score of the second half, a try through number 8 James McGarahan and converted by Hughes.
The Scoil Chonglais team dominated after this and despite huge pressure could not get the vital scores.
This was a very good team performance from the Wicklow lads but special mention has to go to Daniel Kelly, Adam Doyle, Shane Farnon, Robin Farrell, Sean Byrne and Brendan Keogh.
The squad have had a great season with 10 games and Moyne CS are the only team to have beaten them.
The team is very grateful for the generous sponsorship from Kenny Autos, Quinns, Germaines, Keadeen Knitwear and PJ O`Reilly
