The final of the Wicklow Post Primary Schools Senior camogie 'B' championship was played in Dunlavin on Tuesday in heavy underfoot conditions.

Avondale CC 2-07 St Kevin's CC Dunlavin 2-06

The visitors from Avondale were first into their stride and had the ball in the net twice within five minutes. Aoife O'Brien scored the first one and then Lauren Burke also found the net after a goalmouth scramble.

Any thought of an easy win for Avondale were soon dispersed however, as a couple of minutes later Olivia Lynch Ward scored a St Kevin's goal. Avondale added a couple of points but, as the half progressed, the Dunlavin school came more into it. When referee Cathy Forde blew for half-time the score was 2-3 to 1-2 in favour of Avondale.

The second half was barely two minutes old when Sophie Mills scored a St Kevin's goal to reduce the lead to a single point.

However, it was Avondale that then enjoyed the bulk of possession as Dunlavin were not to score again until the final five minutes. The accuracy of Sheenagh Byrne from frees added three points to the Avondale total but in the dying minutes Sophie Mills added four St Kevin's points. The last one was from a 45 and brought the scores level at 2-6 each so extra time had to be played.

The tempo rose in the extra time as both teams strived for victory but defences were on top at both ends. The two teams looked for goals at times when they had good points scoring chances and the only score in all of extra time was a pointed free for Avondale by Sheenagh Byrne.

After the game the trophy was presented to the Avondale joint captains Tanya Carter and Sinead Keogh by Jim Murphy.

There were some excellent performances on both sides with Tanya Carter outstanding for the winners and well supported by Danielle Burke, Katie Toomey and Sheenagh Byrne.

Aoife Grace always looked dangerous in possession for St Kevin's while Jenny Tyrrell, Hannah Bevan and Sarah O'Keeffe also impressed.

Avondale will now meet Coláiste Bhride Carnew in the county 'A' final.
