A SHANKILL WOMAN has been awarded €260,000 after tripping on an uneven footpath in Dun Laoghaire.
Olive Loughrey (62), Station Road, Shankill, fell outside the Dun Laoghaire council town hall on July 9 2002 and injured her wrists.
The seamstress sued the council. Last week the High Court awarded her €125,000 for general damages and €135,000 for past and future loss of earnings. The court heard that she was unable to return to work after the accident.
The judge found that as a matter of probability the cause of the deterioration of the footpath slab she fell over was either poor design or faulty construction. Ms. Loughrey was in no way to blame for the accident, he said.
