Wicklow swimmers are being asked to take the plunge and dive into the lake at Glendalough National Park as part of Bewley's Open Water Swimmer League.
Up to 1,000 competitors are expected to take part in the league which also includes swims at Lough Key and Hodson Bay.
Things get underway at Lough Key on June 21 and then head to Hodson Bay on July 19. The league culminates in Glendalough National Park on September 6 and 7 where competitors will compete over 750m, 1,500m and 3,900m.
John Fitzgerald of Open Water Swimmer Ireland says, 'the combination of stunning scenery and the chance to swim in some of Ireland's most beautiful lakes makes this one outdoor challenge not to be missed. Swimming in open-water is very different to swimming in the clear waters of a swimming pool. Besides adjustments that you may need to make to your stroke technique, the biggest factor for most people is adjusting to the outdoor environment and the lower water temperatures that accompany it.
