THE annual school athletics competition 'The Wicklow Races' took place last Wednesday in Greystones and as usual the pupils of Kilmacanogue NS took part and represented the area with great enthusiasm.
The boys and girls from 1st class to 6th class took part in a variety of athletic events, from racing to long jump to long kick and tug of war.
While all the children were great ambassadors for Kilmacanogue for the day, it seems that the most successful group were our 6th class competitors.
Winning Gold on the U-12 long throw was Laura O Toole and Over 12 long throw was Alison Cahill. Both were clear winners with nobody coming close to either girl.
The last event of the day was the Tug of War competition which saw Kilmac winning silver in a 12 team competition.
The Tug of War team worked hard and really pulled together to make it to the final against much bigger teams.
On the team were Caoimhe Flynn, Caoilfhionn Tighe, Kerri Bradshaw, Lauren Gallagher, Ann Carstairs, Amy Blackbyrne, Patrick O'Toole and Brian Glass, all of whom were kept in line by the anchor-man Mark Redden. On the side-line, a very hoarse Mr. Stakelum drove the team on! Well done to everyone for taking part.
