STUART BRIERTON from Bray is one of six athletes who will represent Ireland in Alpine skiing in next year's Special Olympics World Winter Games.

The games will take place in PeyongChang, South Korea, from January 26 to February 6, 2013.

Stuart, below, is a member of both Bray Lakers and Kilternan Karvers Special Olympics Clubs and has been involved with Special Olympics for the past nine years.

If he weren't involved with Special Olympics Stuart says that he would not have had the opportunity to participate in sport â?“ something that is very important to him.

Stuart has achieved a great deal through this involvement with Special Olympics. He competed in bowling at the 2010 Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games in Limerick and in April he competed in and won two gold medals at the 2012 Special Olympics Ireland Winter Games.

Being selected as a member of Team Ireland for the Special Olympics World Winter Games in South Korea is one of the biggest highlights of Stuart's involvement with Special Olympics and he is determined to do himself proud. He is also looking forward to meeting with athletes from other countries while he is there.

As well as skiing Stuart is very interested in aviation and motor sport. It is no surprise for this reason that Michael Schumacher is his sporting hero. For more information go to www.specialolympics.ie.
