This is part of a flurry of preparations for the final of the Wicklow Rose pageant to take place in Germaines Hotel in Baltinglass on March 22. Some of the Roses also met up there on Monday night this week, ahead of the big event.

'This is the first time the event is coming to Baltinglass,' said coordinator and hotel manager Louise Fleming, who added that she and the girls are very excited about the forthcoming pageant. The ladies are aged between 18 and 27 and hail from all over County Wicklow.

With just over two weeks to go, they are taking the opportunity to see some of the wonderful attractions on their own doorstep.

Whoever wins in Baltinglass this month will go on to participate in the regionals in Portlaoise over the May bank holiday weekend.

Six girls will be picked from there to carry on in the process and hopefully go to the main Rose of Tralee event in August.

'I'm very optimistic,' said Louise.

'The girls are fantastic. They look great, have great personalities and great careers.'
