A FUNDRAISING Singer Songwriter competition will be launched in Arklow on Wednesday, November 7 and organisers are now on the lookout for emerging talent from across County Wicklow and surrounding areas.
Following a successful competition last year which saw a recording package presentenced to the winner Doey Walsh, The Rí Sessions event is back and is set to be bigger than ever.
The launch night will be packed with free entertainment from well known acts Francie Conway, Tommy Breen, Mickey Joe Harte, B and the Honeyboy, Gavin Ralston, Noel 'Colly' Collins and Doey Walsh and takes place at Sally O'Brien's, Arklow.
The event is hosted by Pat Crowe and Colm Weadick and aims to offer a distraction from all the doom and gloom while supporting and promoting up and coming musical acts.
Recording package prizes valued at €2,000 are kindly sponsored for the second year running by Gavin Ralston of Silverwood Studios.
A gifted musician in his own right, Ralston has performed as a session musician with The Waterboys, Sharon Shannon, Baggatelle and produced for Luan Parle, Thom Moore, Ronnie Drew, Eleanor McEvoy.
The Rí Sessions will continue monthly until the grand finale in June 2013. If contestants prove to have what it takes, the Rí Sessions competition will also serve as a platform for artists to audition for Troubador Club, a separate initiative organised by Francie Conway seeking new talent to feature on an album with well known performers. Admission is free and a raffle will be held in aid of Suicide or Survive.
