A local theatre company which caters for intellectually disabled actors but is struggling for funding will once again feature on an RTE programme this Sunday, August 1.

Bray-based theatre company, Shadowbox first featured on the RTE programme 'Would You Believe' in April. However, the programme is to be repeated this Sunday evening on RTE 1 from 7.30 p.m.

The programme focuses on the work of the artists with disabilities and their struggle to be heard.

Formed six years ago by Frieda Hand and Gemma Gallagher, Shadowbox Theatre Company has worked with an ensemble of actors with intellectual disabilities who have performed work both locally and internationally.

Difficulties

However, increasing financial difficulties during the past months has forced Shadowbox Theatre Company to consider closing their doors for good.

Founding member, Gemma Gallagher said Shadowbox is still struggling to secure funding for its theatre and workshop programme, but has by no means closed its doors as the programme seems to suggest.

'We are in fact working as hard as ever and would appreciate any feedback on the programme and suggestions on funding possibilities,' she explained.

The programme airs on RTE 1 from 7.30 p.m. this Sunday, August 1. For further information contact Shadowbox Theatre Company on (01) 2765091.
