The new playground located at Bray seafront near the Esplanade Hotel is finally open to the public.

While the Municipal District of Bray had announced that the facility would be open last weekend, this did not emerge.

They explained that a safety audit identified a possible future trip hazard and recommended sealant be applied to a portion of rubber matting.

This required a clear playground and was also weather dependent. The job was supposed to be carried out on Saturday however was rained off. The work continued on Monday and fencing was removed on Tuesday.

This followed a situation the previous weekend where people broke into the ground letting kids in to use it during the bank holiday.

Many thought that it was legitimately open and followed suit. This led to difficulty for council staff who had to tell children to stop playing there that day.

After that incident it was announced that the playground required finalisation of a safety audit before it could be used by the public.

The new playground includes 17 pieces of equipment, including swings, a slide, an octopus seesaw, hopscotch, a multi climber and more, all designed around the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson.
