FILMING of Neil Jordan's new film Byzantium is underway, and will close down a portion of Strand Road in Bray for the coming week.

The road will be closed to traffic from Fontenoy Terrace to the Star Amusements, including the adjoining public car park, from 8 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, to 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 22.

Bray Town Council has said that pedestrian traffic and local access will be facilitated as much as possible.

Byzantium is an adaptation of The Vampire Stories, a play by Moira Buffini. Some filming has already been done in Hastings, South England, and the production moves to Ardmore Studios and Bray this week.

Saoirse Ronan, pictured right, and bond girl Gemma Arterton as well as X-men's Caleb Landry Jones are all set to star in the movie, which also boasts a mainly Irish crew. In Byzantium, a mother turns her daughter into a creature of the night.

This is Neil Jordan's second vampire-themed film, coming 17 years after Interview With The Vampire â?“ which launched the career of Kirsten Dunst.
