Morning glory as €44k raised
The sixth annual East Coast FM Coffee morning raised over €44,000 and the figure is still rising.
This puts the figure over the €200,000 mark in total to date.
All the proceeds raised last Friday go straight to local cancer services as well as the Wicklow Hospice Foundation.
'What an unbelievable day,' said organiser Claire Darmody, who was overwhelmed by the support from people all over Wicklow. They enjoyed their cuppas and live entertainment in exchange for a donation. Celebrities to support the endeavour this year included Paddy Casey and Kim Hayden who performed at the Martello in Bray, and X Factor star Mary Byrne who sang for the crowds at the Beach House in Greystones. TV personality Amanda Brunker was also there to lend a hand.
There was a reporter from East Coast at each site, with live link-ups throughout the morning to Declan Meehan in the studio.
'A huge thanks to the people of Wicklow for making it such an incredible day for everyone,' said Claire.
There were 11 venues involved in this year's coffee morning with bag-packs in Tesco and Dunnes stores in the surrounding days, as well as a monster table quiz at Bray Golf Club.
A number of places held their own satellite fundraisers to help contribute to the fund.
The atmosphere at all of the venues was incredible with a surge of good will for the cause all over Wicklow.
