Hogan's Doha aide will not return to politics
A WICKLOW woman pictured with Environment Minister Phil Hogan's arm around her during a stay in the five-star Kempinski Residences and Suites in Doha, Qatar, won't be returning to her job in the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.
Yvonne Hyland has resigned as PR Handler and aide to Mr. Hogan.
A photograph emerged of the Minister with his arm around Ms Hyland in December, just as the hugely controversial property tax was being unveiled back home.
Evelyn Johnston's son, Andrew, is married to Ms Hyland, and she has confirmed that her daughter-in-law won't be returning to work for Minister Hogan.
The Newcastle resident says, 'she has been through a traumatic time. We are very lucky to have her. She's a lovely girl.'
She added that she expected the couple to do just fine.
'They'll get by, money is not everything - happiness is. Life is for living. You only live once.'
She also confirmed that Ms Hyland has no intention of returning to politics.
Mr. Hogan was attending a UN conference when he stayed at the five-star resort in Qatar. The overall cost of the trip is believed to have cost the Irish taxpayer more than €15,000.
