Gardai have warned people not to advertise their holidays or other absences from home on Facebook.
'It's a big big problem,' said Garda Declan Lynch. He said that thieves can use social media as a means to identify households as possible targets for burglaries.
Furthermore, they may have pictures up which show valuable items in the home as well as geotagging of the person's address. 'It leaves people wide open,' said Garda Lynch. 'It's the equivalent of standing out in the street shouting out "my house is vacant".' Meanwhile, he also warned that culprits have been using females to call at houses to check if occupants are at home. Anyone who suspects suspicious activity can contact Bray Garda Station on (01) 6665300.
