The girls' art work could win one of them a €5,000 scholarship for school or college and the winning school will get a €10,000 technology grant.

The winning 'doodle' will be displayed on the Google Ireland home page. The theme of the competition was 'My Adventure.'

Eva's lively image includes a range of animals in the zoo, while Jessica's banner has the 'Google' logo in outer space.

Voting has now closed with Google's own team of professional doodlers to select a winner from the top five in each category.

Teacher Nicola Byrne said that the junior school is buzzing with excitement.

Both pupils along with their teachers have been invited to attend the final prize-giving event in the Google Foundry on March 24, where the winners will be announced.

Each of the five class group winners will receive a Chromebook, as will their teacher.
