Donnelly spends day erecting Curran posters
'I WAS stiff as a board afterwards,' admitted Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly, who spent a day erecting posters on behalf of Arklow area election candidate Tom Curran.
'The muscles used to put up posters are ones I didn't even know existed,' he said after he and his uncle put up 45 posters around the Arklow area recently in glorius sunshine.
Not afraid to roll up his sleeves, the Independent TD said that he didn't mind getting out and helping Curran, the partner of the late 'right to die' campaigner Marie Fleming, who he describes as a 'great guy who has a proven track record fighting for the underdog'. Deputy Donnelly donned his hard hat and high-vis jacket and waster no time in climbing up the ladder to hang the posters after which he took a well deserved break.
'I enjoyed doing it. The weather was so nice that we even has an ice cream out in the sunshine. It was the warmest day of the year so far.'
The reaction, Deputy Donnelly says, has been positive to date.
'People were very nice and we are getting a positive reaction at the doors. Tom is a good man for the job and if elected would be working closely with me. He would be my eyes and ears on the ground in the Arklow area.'
