More than 3,000 cyclists will wind their way through County Wicklow this Sunday (July 8), as part of the annual Wicklow 200 event.
The route covers 200km through the Wicklow Mountains and tackles most of the famous climbs including the Wicklow Gap, Slieve Mann and Glenmalure. The event is a leisure cycle rather than a race with each rider given a maximum of 14 hours to complete the 20okms. There's also a shorter 100km route running at the same time.
The cycle will start and finish at the Shoreline Leisure Centre in Greystones and will be diverted away from the town to keep disruption to a minimum.
The Shoreline Centre will open at 5 a.m. on Sunday with riders arriving from 6 a.m. onwards. There will be a ceremonial start at 7 a.m. although riders can start earlier or later than this to avoid congestion.
Once they have left the starting point the cyclists will travel the route stopping at various pre arranged points for refreshments arriving back at the finish line over a ten hour period depending on the route chosen and the weather conditions.
