THE ANNUAL BRAY Charities Sea Swim is to take place again this year on New Year's Day and organisers are hoping plenty local people will come forward for a dip in the ocean.
Set up 29 years ago to have some festive fun while raising funds for local charities, the yearly event has so far raised a total of €256,000 for a range of worthy local causes. The last seasonal splash raised €17,500 in aid of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. Charities which have benefited from the swim over the years have included Sunbeam House, the Bray Women's Refuge, Bray Cancer Support Group, the Bray Old Folks Association, Meals on Wheels, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and St Catherine's Special School, as well as St. Columcille's Hospital, Cystic Fibrosis, Fassaroe Community Centre, the Order of Malta, the Old Folks Association on Boghall Road, the ISPCC, Marino Clinic, St. Columcille's Hospital CAT Scan appeal and Bray Children In Need, Orchard Retirement Home, Bray Lions Club, the Carer's Association, Caring for Carers, Bray Soroptimists Club, and Open Door.
The swim will take place at the Southern end of Bray Seafront at 12 midday next New Year's Day. For more information contact John Mcevoy on (086) 856188 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
