Bray woman Ali Mitter is baking up a storm on the brand new series of 'The Great Irish Bake Off', which was filmed in Wicklow's Tinakilly House.
31-year-old Ali is currently on maternity leave from Salesforce following the birth of seven-month-old Jonas. A Czech national, the mother-of-two said her signature bakes are rye sourdough bread, cinnamon rolls and Black Forest Gateaux.
Ali's father, an engineer, was very ahead of his time and was a big advocate of healthy eating. Ali and her older sister, who is now a lawyer in Prague, weren't allowed to eat from the school canteen and red meat and processed meats such as salami were all frowned upon. Hence Ali's interest in baking began at a young age.
Her first job in Ireland was with Lufthansa and later she got a job with IBM. There she met her husband Michael, who is German. They have two children, Yannick (4) and Jonas (7 months). Ali describes herself as competitive and enjoys a good challenge as well as learning new skills and trying new things.
At first Ali just wanted to get on to the show but now she's there she wants to win! She describes herself as slightly impatient, very spontaneous and smart but bordering on being a smart ass too.
As a child she was very artistic and was always painting and creating but baking was not seen as a career option for her. However, the emergence of different cooking and baking shows coupled with the popularity of celebrity chefs means she might, if faced with her 16-year-old self, pursue a cookery career.
The Great Irish Bake Off is on TV3 every Wednesday night at 9 p.m.
