First to "take the strain" was the 405kg team, who fought a tough battle to win the Gold medal. On that team were four Calary girls, Rita O Toole, Helen Fox, Jennifer Connolly and Mildred Fox, along with Kilmuray anchor Cathy O Toole, and Roundwoods Mary Catherine Murphy. The 435kg pulled very well all day, and despite being lighter than the opposing teams, won every pull until the final, where they were unlucky to lose to Offaly team Boyneside. Kilmacanogues Jennier Giles, pulled very well on this team, as did Sheila and Edwina Evans. Well done to the girls and their coach Ed Fox. The final round in the Leinsters takes place this Sunday (3rd of June) in Punchestown, when both the men's and ladies teams will be in action.
