THE TEAM in Tesco Bray have raised over €3,000 for Aware, Tesco's Charity of the Year, with their recent cyclethon event which took place in the store.
Staff members took turns cycling ' to Lapland' on the stationery bike in-store. The team cycled each day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. over a three day period.
' We want to thank everyone in the local community for being so generous, supporting us over the three days and helping us to raise this large sum of money for the charity,' said Charity of the Year champion Sinead King.
Aware is the national organisation providing information, support and education around depression, a condition which affects more than 450,000 people (one in ten) in Ireland at any one time.
Funds raised during the partnership in 2012 will go towards Beat the Blues. Depression affects many teenagers in Ireland and this programme helps create a better understanding of issues amongst pupils, teachers and parents.
Funds raised through the Tesco Charity of the Year partnership will enable Aware to deliver Beat the Blues to approximately 16,000 additional teenagers this year.
The charity was chosen as Tesco's Charity of the Year for 2012 and 2013 earlier this year. Since its inception in 2001, the Tesco Charity of the Year Programme has donated over €10 million to 8 Irish charities.
