DEBATING SUCCESS

St. Kilian's senior debating team earned a tremendous victory against Loreto Bray in the semi-final of the Bray Lions' Club competition. They opposed the motion that, "TV advertisements that target children should be prohibited" . St. Kilian's team consisted of captain, Niamh Millward, Chris Smith, Adam Doyle and Jordan Mooney.

The standard of debate from both teams was extremely high. A lot of research and preparation had been put in by both teams. This was clearly evident by the high standard of the speeches' content, rebuttals and the confidence displayed by the speakers.

The judges commented on the high standard of debating witnessed and commended both teams and their mentors. St. Kilian's were declared the winners and heartily congratulated by the judges on their success. Tribute was also paid to a skilful and gallant Loreto team for their efforts.

Best wishes to the team who now progress to the final of the competition which is to be held in early May. GERMAN EXCHANGE

St. Kilian's is looking forward to hosting students from the Matthias Grunewald Gymnasium in Wurzburg, Germany. The Germans will be hosted by our students and their families and will stay in Ireland for ten days in April. This exchange has taken place between the schools for the past thirty years and offers students the chance to experience the culture of another country. Best wishes to all concerned. LOURDES PILGRIMAGE

Congratulations to Stephen Kenna, Gordon Leonard, Shannon Hussey and Cathy Waters for being selected as the St. Kilian's helpers for the annual Dublin Diocesan Sick Pilgrimage to Lourdes. This pilgrimage will take place in September. Eleven fifth year students were interviewed and the board were impressed by the high standard of all candidates. Well done to all concerned. FEIS CEOIL WIN

The Kelly Family entered the Feis Ceoil Family Ensemble competition on Friday 23rd of March. There were three sections in the overall competition, two of which were instrumental groups. The competition took place in the concert hall in the RDS. The Kelly family sang an Irish 3-part piece called The Fiddler, teacher Frank on the piano and his children: Rebecca, Orlaith, Emily and John singing. They won the competition with a score of 98 marks out of 100, one of the highest marks ever achieved in the Feis Ceoil. Congratulations to the Kelly family on this great achievement! LENTEN SERVICE

On Thursday 29th March, St. Kilian's had its annual Lenten service in St. Fergal's Church. It was celebrated by Fr. Larry Behan and co-ordinated by the R.E. department. The service was an opportunity for everybody to reflect on the liturgical season of Lent. Thanks to all the students who helped to make this service a spiritual experience for all. GET WELL SOON!

Best wishes to our religion teacher, Mr. Sheridan, who suffered an unfortunate and totally accidental injury in the weekly staff soccer match just before Easter. The unfortunate Mr. Sheridan broke his ankle and but true to nature, he soldiers on in battle and can be seen hobbling around the corridors and classrooms of St. Kilian's on crutches! Best wishes to Stephen for a speedy recovery!
