WICKLOW TRIATHLON Club had a strong presence at the Triathlon Ireland Annual Awards Dinner picking up 26 individual and team awards.
The presentations took place in the surrounds of the Aviva Stadium on Saturday evening. Much like the growth in the sport, this year's awards dinner was bigger than ever attracting some of the top elite and age group triathletes in the country along with special guests on the night, Olympians Rob Heffernan, Natalya Coyle, Darren O'Neill, Aileen Morrison and Gavin Noble.
Wicklow TC's Men's team finished a close 2nd in Club Championships just a handful of points behind the Dublin based Belpark Triathlon Club. Wicklow's top 6 athletes counted towards the ranking which was contested by 75 triathlon clubs across the country.
Wicklow TC's Women's team placed 4th again just a handful of points off the podium. With more and more women joining the club they are looking to move up the rankings next season.
Wicklow Triathlon Club members scooped up no less than 26 medals, 10 of which were gold displaying once again that they are one of the strongest clubs in the country.
Liam Williams in the 50-54 years age category collected five medals across a variety of distances and disciplines while Jim Corbett on the 55-59 age category got a total of four showing their incredible consistency throughout the season.
'We had a really successful 2012 season with plenty of awards and loads of new members giving triathlon a go', said WTC PRO Scott Graham at the Awards Dinner.
'Training has just started back for next season and we'd welcome anybody who'd like to try out a swim, bike or run training session. You'll find all the information on www.wicklowtri.com.'
