TV presenter Kathryn Thomas met with the store managers from Wicklow recently to support the launch of the initiative, which will see customers deciding how the Tesco Community Fund is allocated by voting for their preferred cause

'Our stores in Wicklow are at the heart of hundreds of communities across Ireland, and as a company we really want to positively contribute to each community in which we operate,' said Greystones store manager, Chris Nolan. 'We are delighted that through our Tesco Community Fund we will be donating up to €1,000 every six weeks between three local good causes in Wicklow and that our customers will have a say in how the funding is shared.'

For the next six weeks, each time a customer shops in a local Tesco store they will receive a token of goodwill which they can be placed into the donation box of local cause they would most like to support. Every six weeks, the number of tokens is counted and up to €1,000 will be distributed proportionally between the three local causes. The organisation which receives the most tokens will be awarded the largest donation.

Wicklow Mental Health, Wicklow Cancer Support and Wicklow Active Retirement are the three charities selected for the Tesco store in Wicklow town. Kilcoole Express has nominated the Gavin Glynn Fund, Vincent de Paul and The Gemma Appeal, while nominated in Greystones are Seagulls Special Needs Rugby Team, Greystones Rowing Club and The Children's Diabetes Centre. In Bray Express on Quinsborough Road customers can choose from the Mervyn Lacy Fund, Bray Cancer Support and Bray Lakers. In Tesco in Bray the nominations are Five Loafs, Bridge Café and CYB Youth Club. Ballyraine, Woodmount St. Catherine's and First Responders are the selected charities for Tesco in Arklow Square.
