There was a huge array of talent from drums to Irish dancing to singing. Each act offered unique abilities and they never failed to impress. Ms. Luan Parle was invited as guest judge and was ably assisted by two teachers Mr. Diamond and Ms. Doohan. The judges were given the unenviable task of selecting a winner. The "teachers choir" sang some festive songs while judges deliberated. Thomas Kinney won first prize as he wowed the judges with his own original song "Monster".

The judges awarded a special judges prize to our Sixth Year students, also known as Band Aid 40, for their version of song "Feed the World". Ms. Luan Parle gave a stunning performance of "Silent Night" and Ciara O'Connell a contestant in All Ireland Talent Show also sang on the day. Robbie Gill acted as MC for the show and his confident demeanour matched the tone of the show perfectly. A wonderful festive community atmosphere was created and it was a superb way to finish the term. JCSP ART COMPETITION

Congratulations to Natasha Duffy, a Second Year student, who has won the individual category in the National Junior Certificate Schools Programme (JCSP) Poster Competition. The prize was an I Pod shuffle. Natasha displayed wonderful artistic ability and we look forward to seeing more work from this budding artist. YOUNG SCIENTIST COMPETITION

The Annual BT Young Scientist Competition took place in the RDS from 8th – 12h of January. On Friday January 11th a group of our Transition students attended the exhibition and were amazed by the projects on display. Students benefited greatly from the overall experience and it certainly made Science more real and relevant for them. CSPE PRESENTATION

On Wednesday January 9th Mr. Mark Barry of the Irish Wheelchair Association visited the school. Mr. Barry gave a group of Second Year students a very moving presentation which was based on the concept of rights and responsibilities. There was a particular focus on the inclusion of less able bodied people in society and in sport especially basketball. The information gained from the presentation will assist students enormously in completing their CSPE Action Project. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Barry for taking the time to visit the school. FIRST YEAR AWARDS

On Tuesday December 18th our First Year students attended an awards ceremony. Students who have completed the positive achievement system and reached the fourth merit received a beautiful engraved pen. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our School Completion Officer for funding this system and our First Year Yearhead Mr. Diamond for arranging the event. MENTOR-LED CINEMA TRIP

On Thursday December 20th, our First Year students, accompanied by their Senior Mentor team and Tutors travelled to Dundrum Town Centre. The trip began with a viewing of the much anticipated film "The Hobbit". Students were enthralled by the special effects and plot.

Afterwards students and teachers played a round of crazy golf. Dundrum Town Centre was buzzing with festive cheer and students soaked up the atmosphere. We would like to take this opportunity to compliment the Senior Mentor team for their excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. GUIDE DOG ASSOCIATION

Mr. Denis Lambert of the Irish Guide Dog Association of Ireland visited the school on Wednesday December 19th. Mr. Lambert was presented with a cheque for €606 which our Transition Year students have collected for this worthy charity. Well done to all involved. ISPCC FUNDRAISING

A total of €630 was collected by our Transition Year students for the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) in December. The money collected will now be presented to this organisation. The ISPCC work tirelessly to help children in difficult situations. The fundraising has heightened our students' awareness of the importance of this organisation and the impact it has on children's lives. FIRST YEAR TRIP TO EURO DISNEY

A gentle reminder that the second instalment of €100 is due at the end of January 2013. The money is to be given to Ms. Goff. CAROL SERVICE

Our Chaplain Ms. Cawley organised a Carol Service for the whole school on Monday December 17th. Students and staff were invited to focus on the gifts of peace, joy, hope and love which symbolise the four themes of advent in preparation for Christmas. First and Sixth Year students sang Christmas carols with the school jazz band. A wonderful festive atmosphere was created. CHRISTMAS HAMPER APPEAL

Students and staff of Coláiste Chill Mhantáin were asked to donate items to the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal in December. The initiative was undertaken by the Leaving Certificate Applied One class. The hampers collected are to be distributed to families in need. The class would like to thank all students and staff for their generosity. CAROL SINGING

Before the Christmas holidays twenty six of our students travelled to Wicklow Day Care Centre to sing some Christmas carols and bring some festive cheer. Students also sang songs requested by their audience. The singing and friendly conversations generated by our students was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in the centre. This event is becoming a lovely tradition in the school and the students involved are to be complimented on their warm and generous conduct. PARENTS' ASSOCIATION
