The lifeboat crew were Terry Sillery (helm) Paul Sillery and Tommy Murphy.

THE VISIT of a group of club scouts to the Wicklow RNLI Station on Sunday was interrupted as the lifeboat crew were called into action.

The boy scouts from Roundwood were afforded a real taste of life as an RNLI crew member just as Lifeboat Visits Officer, John Hayden, was showing the group around the station. The inshore crew were alerted by pager to a potential problem involving a swimmer at the Murrough.

The coast guard was contacted by a member of the public walking who had been along the Murrough. They reported their concerns for a swimmer who appeared to be in difficulty in the water.

The inshore lifeboat arrived quickly on scene north of Wicklow harbour and the crew made contact with the person who was part of a group of swimmers. Once it became apparent the person was not in danger and no further assistance was required, the lifeboat crew returned to the station.
