OVERCOMERS Boxing Club in Little Bray held a fun day recently at the Little Bray Community Centre.
The club was founded 18 months ago and coach Kieran Kearney said that there are 26 young people there aged between six and 15.
The day included bouncy castles, a barbecue, boxing displays and a raffle and was held to raise funds as well as awareness for the club. Over 100 local people came along to enjoy the fun and support the club with great community spirit. 'It's actually mostly girls at the moment!' said Kieran, commenting that the Katie Taylor factor is still alive and well two years after her legendary win at the London Olympics.
They wanted to make sure people know about the club, which recently acquired a brand new ring thanks to a grant allocation from the former Bray Town Council.
The other coaches, Terry Mullen and Ben Lynch, teach the children on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5.30 p.m.
Kieran said that they learn about the sport in a safe environment with good positive attention and discipline where they also get to spend time with their friends.
Most of the pupils come from the little Bray area with a handful from Kilcoole and Kilmacanogue.
