Photolight is solar powered so there is no electricity bill, is CO2 emission free and the LED light will last from 10-15 years making it a very low maintenance, low cost option.

It is available via Photo-me.com and up to 90 per cent of funding is available from the government.

'The interest we have received from architects, town councils, sports councils and hire companies in Wicklow has been great,' said Paul McDonnell of Photolight.

'I believe what makes Photolight such an attractive option apart from the 90 per cent government funding is its value for money compared to conventional street lighting and low maintenance.

'The solar lights are Wi-Fi enabled allowing managers to programme the lights remotely from their smart phones, the infrared motion sensors detect when more or less light is needed, saving power and the three designs all have anti-vandal protection.'
