Homes for horses urgently sought as IHWT feels the strain

THE Irish Horse Welfare Trust is appealing to the public for short foster homes and long terms homes for its rescued horses.
According to the organisation, an unprecedented level of abandoned and neglected horses have come into its care which has put tremendous pressure on resources.
'As a result we desperately need homes for some of our rescues,' said a IHWT spokesperson.
One of the horses seeking a new home is Soldier, a 2005 grey gelding. Soldier is a former race horse and entered the IHWT ex race horse re-training programme in September 2013.
'The first step in the programme is to allow Soldier to settle into a new way of life and a new routine. He was given time to rough off before being brought back into work. Before he entered our retraining progamme he was assessed by our vet and equine dentist,' explained the spokesperson.
'Solider has now completed our retraining program and is ready for re-homing. He has a particularly nice temperament and is excellent to handle. He will make a very nice riding horse and is suitable as a light hack. He is not up to heavy work.'
