Competition entrants, Trish and Paul Day, were selected from entrants from across Wicklow, Dublin, Wexford and beyond as the traders who would most add to the festive artisan atmosphere at Wicklow Gaol's mini Christmas market.

Their unique products include traditional jewellery hand-made in Nepal as well as colourful bags, felt purses and baby gifts. Judges felt the couple's promise of a 'welcoming stand' and 'friendly personality' would be perfect for the festive mood at the Gaol.

Trish, who worked as a buyer with international clothing brands for over 20 years, was always drawn to the Fair Trade ethos.

She decided to leave the corporate world at the end of last year and set up a business underpinned by the Fair Trade ethos. The goods she selected were all high quality and unique and most-importantly the craftspeople in question would receive a fair price for their work. 'When you operate by Fair Trade principals, everyone wins,' says Trish. She launched the goods at the beginning of this year and is delighted with her decision.

Trish joined seven other existing stall holders at Wicklow Gaol's mini artisan market on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will also be present on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..

With Santa's Jingle Cells experience in full swing at the Gaol, thousands of people are expected to visit over the final weekend of the festive period.
