ARKLOW AND South Wicklow will be well represented at this weekend's Dublin City Marathon as 22 members of The Coral Runners are set to take on the challenge.
The runners have been in training for almost a year under the stewardship of local woman Mary Nolan Hickey who has completed every single Dublin marathon since it started 33 years ago.
'We are all geared up for the weekend,' said Mary. 'Some of us have times we are aiming for and others just want to finish. To cross the line is a huge acheivement in itself. For some it's the first marathon and comes after they gave up smoking or lost a lot of weight so we are all really looking forward to the event.'
Mary hopes that in her own case this year's marathon will be her best of recent years. 'I had knee surgery and I had metatarsalitis in both feet but I am feeling good and am happy with my training to date,' she added.
As the marathon draws close the group will be taking it easy avoiding long runs and filling up on good carbs to ensure they have enough energy on race day.
