The filming of Showtime's horror series 'Penny Dreadful' has started in Dublin before the production comes to Ardmore Studios in Bray.

The filming of Showtime's horror series 'Penny Dreadful' has started in Dublin before the production comes to Ardmore Studios in Bray.

The Victorian Horror series by Skyfall producers John Logan & Sam Mendes and is based on some of horror literature's best known characters.

The stories will include Dr. Frankensein, Dorian Gray and Dracula. The first two episodes of the eight-part series are being directed by Spanish film director Juan Antonio Bayona ('The Orphanage', 'The Impossible'), with an impressive cast including Timothy Dalton, Eva Green and Billie Piper as well as Josh Hartnett and Irish actor Own Roe.

It has been over three years since Ardmore hosted a major production. The Tudors finished there in 2010. Principal photography is underway this week at Cabinteely Park.
