Culture Night is a national event taking place on Friday September 20.
County Wicklow's programme is co-ordinated by the County Arts Office and has a great variety of free events for all to enjoy no matter what age you are or where you live. This year's programme in Wicklow has 30 different events taking place in eight different towns in the county and most are family friendly.
Events include free guided tours of gardens, historical houses and Glendalough, walks, talks and exhibitions on local history, choral events, free workshops for children, many sessions covering live music and the spoken word, free films and visual arts events.
In the Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, you can design and make your own character and bring them to life using stop-motion animation techniques.
There will be a traditional evening of music, dancing agus craic featuring local musicians taking place in the Beach House, Bray. The Hot Spot Cafe, Watson and Johnston Centre, Mill Road will host an open mic night.
Wicklow Gaol hosts a family friendly event from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. whereby on entering the building, you will be transported back in time and meet face to face with some of the most notorious characters to have walked the floors of this dramatic and history filled building.
Wicklow town's 400th anniversary will be celebrated by the Wicklow Arts Festival in An Tairseach Ecology Centre, Dominican Convent.
The Wicklow Arts Festival will launch an exciting legacy exhibition created from the contributions sent from home and abroad to the 'Stitch in Time ... Wicklow's 400 year Yarnbomb project from this year's festival. The pieces merge together to form permanent exhibition hangings which will be displayed for the first time at this year's Culture Night.
Russborough House of Blessington, designed by Richard Cassels in 1741, will be open for free guided tours as well.
You are invited to drop into any event and most are timed to enable and encourage people to attend more than one free event on the night.
All participating groups and venues are offering their services free of charge for the night to encourage the public to come along and experience what they have to offer all year around and to generate an interest in community arts and venues.
Free programmes are available in libraries, shops and on www.culturenight.ie and www.facebook.com/wicklowculturenight
