DUNDALK responded in positive fashion to their exit from the FAI Youth Cup and gained the perfect pre-Christmas tonic when recording a convincing win over Stella Maris in the Dublin and District League's Under-18 division on Sunday.

Aaron Boyle wasted a good chance to put them ahead after 15 minutes, firing over the crossbar from six yards when Dylan O'Hanlon swung in a free kick from the left.

It was a short reprieve for the visitors, however, for on the half-hour Frank Osadebe skipped past three players and squared the ball for O'Hanlon to score.

The Stella Maris keeper came to his side's rescue right on the stroke of half-time when he saved with his feet to prevent O' Hanlon doubling the lead, after great link-up play between the Youths scorer and Pauric McGowan.

But the Youths second goal wasn't delayed much longer, with Aaron Boyle scoring direct from a corner kick three minutes into the second half.

Ten minutes later the Dundalk outfit pushed their advantage out to 3-0, with Calvin Murphy emphatically applying the finishing touch to a great move involving McGowan who found O'Hanlon.

The latter player made a surging run and squared the ball to the edge of the box for Murphy to find the net.

Cody Magill used his strength to complete the Youths tally on the 70-minute mark when a scramble resulted in the Stella Maris goalmouth from Aaron Boyle's corner.

Boyle was unlucky then not to add his name to the scoresheet when his shot clipped the Stella Maris crossbar five minutes from time after substitute Matthews had picked him out at the back post with a free kick.

DUNDALK: Fergal Sheeky (Conor Callan 70), Frank Osadebe, Fergal McDonald (Matthews 60), Conor McCoy (Ciaran O'Connell 55), Adam O'Connor, Cody Magill, James Renaghan, Calvin Murphy, Aaron Boyle, Pauric McGowan (Keenan 70), Dylan O'Hanlon, (G Gaffey 75).
